Teniola Apata professionally known as Teni, is a fast rising Nigerian singer, songwriter, drummer, performer and entertainer. She was born December 12, 1992 in Lagos state, south western Nigeria to the family of late Brig and Mrs Simeon Apata.

She hails from Ekiti state and she’s the 9th of 10 children
Teni had her primary and secondary education at Apata Memorial High school Isolo Lagos state, a school owned by her late father, there she obtained her First School Leaving certificate and West African Senior School certificate.

Teni the entertainer went further after that and obtained a degree in Business Administration from the American InterContinental University, Schaumburg, Chicago, USA. She’s also referred to as Teni the entertainer, Teniola, or Teni Makanaki.

Early career

Teni started her music career at an early age as a drummer. She played in her school band and had been previledge to play for past Lagos governors like; Babatunde Fashola, Mohammed Buba Marwa and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Before her entry into the music industry, Teni was known for posing comedy videos and freestyle on her Instagram page. This quickly got her huge followers, currently counting about 2.8 million.

In 2016,Teni got signed into Magic Fingers Record, the record label of hit maker producer Shizzi. There she released her first single “Amen”. She later left Magic fingers and in 2017 she was signed into Dr Dolor Entertainment record label, there she released her hit single ‘Fargin’.

Teni songs is a hybrid of Afrobeat, pop and rap, she sings mostly in Yoruba language mixed with a bit of English and pidgin English.

Music career

Teni came into limelight after releasing her hit single ‘Fargin’ in September 2017. She later released her hit singles ‘Askamaya,’ ‘Case’ and ‘Uyo Meyo,’ which brought about her breakthrough in the Nigeria Music industry. Teni’sfirst EP “Billionaire” was released October 11, 2019. The album which is made up of six tracks, featured no guest artist.

In 2019 ‘Askamaya’ hits 4 million views on YouTube, ‘Uyo Meyo’ which was sang in her native dialect was talking about her journey so far, the song was first freestyle on her social media before it was later released, it became a motivational song for most of her fans and listeners. ‘Wait’ was in memory of her late dad, and it focus on the love between her mother and father.

In ‘Fake Jersey,’ Teni addresses those who buys fake things just to meet up with the fashion trend.
Her song “Askamaya” was ranked 15th on MTV Base’s year-end list of the Top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2018 while she was awarded Rookie of the Year at the 2018 Headies Awards and Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

In addition she was awarded Best New Artist at the 2018 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival. NotJustOk ranked her eighth on its list of the 10 Hottest Artists In Nigeria while Premium times listed her amongst six Nigerian breakout stars and viral sensations of 2018.

Teni was featured on YouTube Music’s trending Artist on the Rise on 20 February, 2019. Teni held her first- ever concert “The Billionaire Experience” at Eko Atlantic City Hotel, Lagos state, Nigeria.

On 20 February 2019, Teni was featured on YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. On May 3, 2019, she released the video for “Sugar Mummy”.

On June 14, 2019, she released a new single titled “Power Rangers”.

Personal life

Teni is the younger sister to Nigerian musician, Ninola. Their father Mr Simeon Apata was a Retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian army and a civil war veteran. He was assassinated in march 1995 while Teni was just 2years old.

Teni is a free, jovial and outspoken person who is usually referred to as a Tomboy cos of her dress sense.
